Veteran Odia film actress Jharna Das passed away at her residence in Cuttack, family sources said on Friday.She had reached the age of 77 .
Das, who was born in 1945, began her acting career in the 1960s and received numerous awards for her outstanding work in seminal movies like, Malajanha, and Shree Jagannath.
Das had previously worked for All India Radio (AIR), Cuttack, as a young announcer and artist.
She had previously worked for Doordarshan in Cuttack as an assistant station director.
Many praised her for the biographical film she directed about the former chief minister of Odisha, Harekrushna Mahtab.
Naveen Patnaik, the chief minister of Odisha, expressed sorrow at the actress's passing and declared that her final rites would be conducted with all due state honours.
Her remarkable theatrical and screen performances will live on forever.
My condolences to the deceased family and may her soul rest in peace, Patnaik said in a statement.
Dharmendra Pradhan, the union minister of education, expressed his sorrow on Das's passing.
