He also accused previous administrations of having a "slave mentality" and failing to take any action to restore the nation's former glory.
The 75th "Amrut Mahotsav" of Shree Swaminarayan Gurukul in Rajkot was being addressed by PM Modi via video link.
He also noted that after his government's first year in office at the Centre in 2014, the number of prestigious educational institutions like IITs, IIMs, and medical colleges in the nation significantly increased.
The Prime Minister praised India's traditional "gurukul" (residential schooling) educational system and stated that knowledge has always been the country's highest goal in life.
He also stated that saints and spiritual figures have contributed to restoring the nation's former glory in the field of education.
"You are fully aware of the important role our current educational institutions and policies play in ensuring India's bright future.
As a result, we are working quickly on every level in this "amrit kaal" of independence, whether it be with regard to the country's educational infrastructure or policy, he said.
